Thiazolidinediones

The generic names for these drugs are pioglitazone (Actos) and Troglitazone (Rezulin), Rosiglitazone (Avandia). Troglitzeone (Rezulin) was banned in March 2000 as it causes liver failure. Thiazolidinediones drug makes your body tissue more sensitive to insulin. The insulin can then move glucose from your blood into your cells for the production of energy.

Side Effects:

It may affect your liver function and lead to nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, lack of appetite, tiredness, yellowing of the skin or whiteness in the eyes, or dark-colored urine.
If you take birth control pills, this drug may decrease its effectiveness in preventing pregnancy.
Unusual weight gain.
Loss of appetite may develop risk of anemia which will make you feel tired.
Swelling in the legs or ankles.
